Shadows
Shadows are often used when images have been clipped but you want to prevent the image from looking as though it is floating. The most natural result is achieved by using an existing shadow that was part of the original photograph.
The Studio-Online team first clips images and then adds a shadow. The resulting images can be used against a variety of backgrounds.
In our application you can choose three different types of shadows:
- Natural shadow
- Drop shadow
- Mirror shadow
Natural shadow
The art here is to isolate and neutralise the shadow originally captured in the image in such a way as to enable the image to be used in a clipped format. Any undesirable undertone in the shadow has to be removed, so that the image can be used against any desired background.
Cast shadow
The advantage of a cast shadow is that it can be made to suit your needs. For folders or online shops, this has the added advantage that you are able to stay within the limited space reserved for the images. For online shop purposes, cast shadow has the added advantage of creating a calm, neat look, because the shadows have a fixed position and size. One example of cast shadow use is on white T-shirts, to improve visibility.
Mirror shadow
The sense of depth afforded by an image that is reflected back on itself by the surface is called a mirrored shadow. This type of shadow is very suitable for product images. The length of the shadow can be limited to a set maximum, so that the look remains consistent across multiple products.
